Simple things you can do to help move the mail.
- Use standard size envelopes and print the address neatly. Modern mail sorting machines
can read addresses and sort envelopes of many different sizes but the mail carrier ultimately
has to be able to read it to deliver it to the right address. Many offices still have to
hand sort mail in the order of delivery and standard envelopes are easier to hand sort. It's
also easier to handle consistantly sized mail.
- If you have curb side delivery keep the area in front of your mailbox clear.
If a vehical, trash can, basketball hoop or anything else prevents the carrier
from parking in front of your mailbox you may not get your mail.
Many carriers are prohibited from leaving their vehical for routine mail delivery.
- If you have door delivery keep your walkways clear, and animals confined. Even
small decorative fences are considered obstructions and your mail carrier may choose
not to deliver your mail rather than risk injury. Some carriers are prohibited from
from crossing barriers.
